No Joy – Hare Tarot Lies

There are systems for a reason in this world.

Economic stability, interest rates, growth. It’s not all a conspiracy to keep you in little boxes, alright?

It’s only the miracle of consumer capitalism that means you’re not lying in your own shit, dying at 43 with rotten teeth.

And a little pill with a chicken on it is not going to change that.

Now come on… fuck off.

Vår -The World Fell

It is a very fine line to being an indie artist, to reject the preconceived constraints of music is a bold claim for anyone to make. Due to the terms sprawling inclusiveness it has come to be commercialised over the past years (greenday), to the point where it has apparently lost all meaning. To be “indie” is to be a try hard, some cunt wearing shades indoors, a chino wanker. The Danish duo of Vår (pronounced war) however, is refreshing in their unapologetic polarisation and musical individualism. Their latest single is the electronic “the world fell”. The blend of post-apocalyptic disco eerily hanging in the background and the preference for tribal chanting instead of lyrics make you need something you never even knew you wanted. In here lies the essence of indie music. No matter how uncanny the final package, it feels as if there was simply no other way it could have been made.

Cocteau Twins – Heaven or Las Vegas

So ruddy good they don’t even bother to follow the absurd convention that all communication should be decipherable or indeed coherent.

Talking gibberish over some lovely guitar work… it’s Cocteau Twins.
